Summer Zappers 2009
"Summer Zappers," the annual Summer School of the Australian Society for
Music Education (WA Chapter) will be held on Monday 19th & Tuesday 20th January,

Mirrabooka.
The Summer School is for all music educators - early childhood, primary &
secondary and music ed. students are also welcome to attend (full time students
are half price.)
Just like last year, we'll be kicking everything off with a Champagne
Breakfast on Monday morning, to give you a chance to catch up with friends from
previous years.
Our special guest presenter will be Mr George Torbay, of "Battle of the
Choirs" fame. On Monday he will be presenting a primary, secondary and combined
session and his new choral book will be available for purchase.
The secondary stream includes Jazz with Matt Styles, An Introduction to
Improvisation (Robert Faulkner); Music Technology Made Really Easy (Joel Birch),
Planning for 1A - 1B Course of Study (Sheena Prince), Planning for VET (Sheila
Randall) and AMEB Contemporary Popular Music (Barry Palmer.)
The Primary/Early Primary stream includes Marlene Rattigan from Kidz Fiz
Biz, Leonie Cecich from Music N Kids, Sue Lalor (Noonan) with a session on
Primary Outcomes, as well as sessions on Jelly Beans, Robert Faulkner
(Zimbabwean Music) and Mary Jasprizza (Walton) with a session on Primary
Recorder.
There are also sessions which will be suitable for either primary or
secondary, such as Simon Faulkner's Introduction to the Drumbeat Programme,
Helen Gouteff's ever popular Taiko drumming, and Anna-Maria Paolino's session on
Music and the Brain/Languages.
As usual, there will be an extensive trade display, so please bring your
chequebooks, credit cards and/or school order numbers; there'll be yummy lunches
and morning teas, wonderful networking opportunities, a raffle to support
Holyoake/Drumbeat, as well as the opportunity to hear about a new lobby group of
teachers, METiER.
